Dial 511 to get Road Conditions and Closures Information
In July 2000 the FCC dedicated the phone number 511 as the national traveler information number and state and local agencies across the nation have adopted it. Utah, one of the early adopters, came on board in December of 2001.
When you call 511 you can choose your options using either the phone keypad (press 1 for this and 2 for that...) or the voice recognition function and simply speak clearly into the phone.
For current transportation information, including road closures, winter road conditions, traffic, public transit status, planned roadwork and Lake Powell Ferry services, call 511 from within Utah, or 866-511-UTAH from outside of Utah. Both calls are toll free.
In the Salt Lake City area, users can choose a specific road or hear a full report. In other areas of the state, full reports are available for the region surrounding a selected city.
