A Learning Experience That is Also Loads of Fun
Got friends in town and want them to get a great view of downtown Salt Lake City? Or maybe you have lived here for years, but would just love to learn some interesting facts about downtown's buildings and history. Or maybe you are new to town and want to get an overview of what is here.
While you used to be able to get a trolley ride with some narration, the addition of TRAX has done away with that option.
But there are a few other options:
- TRAX
The easiest and most inexpensive thing to do is to hop onto TRAX. Of course, there will be no narration, but you will be able to see parts of the town without having to drive in it. You can ride all the way from downtown, out to the U, or down to Sandy for a small price.
The ride is free for about one mile of downtown.
- Busses
Another way to do it is to take a bus tour. Two that are recommended by the Utah tourist Council are:
- Beehive Tours
- They can go with as little as two people and don't require reservations. Just meet at the Salt Lake Visitor's Center and get on for a 1 1/2 hour tour. Or, call ahead (474-2002) and get picked up in front of your hotel.
- 2007 starting times/prices:
10am, 12pm and 2pm / $25
- City Sights
- They require at least four people to do the tour--you don't have to have that big a group, but if you are alone there needs to be 3 other people interested in the same time slot. Call 801-534-1001 to make a reservation.
- 2007 details:
Tours start at 9am, run for four hours and cost $35.
- Horse-drawn Carriages
- Carriage For Hire
These tours can be tailored to your liking or you can take something on the menu. Their City History Tour is a 1-hour ride and costs $80 (2007 prices).
