Destinations - Vacation Ideas

A Sampling of Utah's Romantic Getaways
Looking for a special place to reconnect with or pamper your significant other and yourself? No need to fly to the ends of the earth, because right here in Utah, there are several wonderful options that will do nicely as a romantic getaway. While in no way comprehensive, this list will give you some great ideas.

A visit to one of Utah's numerous bed and breakfast inns, lodges or even a remote backcountry yurt offer the opportunity to spend some quiet time with each other as well as sampling together some of the activities and cuisine nearby or right on the property.

Some of the "theme" inns give you a chance to spend a night in a fun atmosphere such as a medieval castle, an Old West saloon or a Victorian mansion. The places listed below are located near some of Utah 's unique vacation spots and so besides cozy nighttime accommodations, there is loads of stuff to do during the day.

So, whether you want to spice up your love life, pamper yourself or just get the cobwebs out of your head that have been building up from too much time indoors, these places will provide an opportunity for a memorable experience.

The Anniversary Inn
Located in Salt Lake City , this themed inn has several unique rooms. Stay in the Lake Powell Room, complete with log raft replica bed, the Rio Grand, designed like an old-fashioned train car, or the Bridal Veil Falls room where you will sleep in a forest atmosphere under a canopy of greenery.

The Homestead
This popular retreat in Midway boasts a natural hot spring-fed mineral pool where guests can swim or even scuba dive. Also on the grounds is a golf course (transformed into a cross country ski area in the winter). The accommodations are comprised of several attractive buildings (most with patios or balconies), arranged to resemble an old fashioned community.

Washington School Inn
This B&B in the heart of Park City is listed on the National Historic Register and the Utah Register of Historic Places and has the distinction of being named one of the "Great Inns of America ".

Stein Eriksen Lodge
It's the abundance of fireplaces in this lodge that make it a favorite with those looking for some snuggle time. Terrycloth robes, DVD players and jetted tubs are among the extras that come with these rooms. An on-site full-service spa offers head to toe pampering. Right outside is the world class Deer Valley Ski and Summer Resort for mountain fun and summer concerts.

The Inn at Solitude
Walking into this inn, located on the grounds of Solitude Ski resort, is like walking into an inn in the Austrian Alps. The atmosphere is cozy and after spending the day in the mountains (skiing or boarding in the winter or hiking or playing disc golf in the summer), come inside for a massage or a dip in the outdoor pool.

Sundance Resort
Located in Provo Canyon (between Provo and Salt Lake ), Sundance Resort is a quiet place tucked in the Wasatch Mountains . With accommodations from a standard room to a mountain home, there is something for every budget. Rooms are decorated in a southwestern mountain style and the views are beautiful. This venue is the original home of the Sundance Film Festival and some of the films are still shown here (the festival runs in January each year.)

The Grist Mill Inn
Located near Canyonlands National Park this inn has seven suites each decorated with antiques and collectibles, and is reminiscent of the days when people brought in their freshly picked wheat and came back later for the processed flour.

The Novel House
Just outside of Zion National Park , this place has 10 theme rooms featuring such time periods as Louis L'Amour (western), Jane Austin (Victorian), and Mark Twain (riverboats). Pamper yourself in the spa with steam treatments, aromatherapy or an invigorating dip in the hot tub.

Ruby's Inn
Located at the entrance to Bryce Canyon National Park , this inn offers an indoor pool and spa to relax your cold and tired bones after a day of hiking (or wintertime cross country skiing) in the park. Don't miss their annual Winter Festival (on President's Day weekend).

SkyRidge Inn
Just outside of Capitol Reef National Park , this B&B offers spectacular views of the area's unique red rock formations, decorated with antiques, sculpture and art. Visit the onsite SkyRidge Gallery to see some southwest jewelry and folk art as well as paintings and photographs. They have posted the recipe for their infamous Pecan-Orange Griddle Cakes on their website.

Sunflower Hill
is located in a garden setting, just minutes from Arches National Park , and offers a full country breakfast and evening refreshment, a VCR library (VCR players in the rooms), cotton robes and an outdoor hot tub.

Forest Service Yurt in Mill Creek Canyon
Need an idea for a fun night out, and not afraid to brave the cold? Consider reserving and staying in the Yurt in Mill Creek Canyon , a deluxe shelter with a wood burning stove, 4.5 miles away from any road. (Available only in the winter months.)
